I got 99 problems and '3 Body Problem' is one
With Netflix dropping an official trailer for their adaptation of Cixin Liu's Remembrance of Earth's Past it seems I now have another trilogy to read quickly.
I admit, I don’t know too much about this book series except that it’s been highly recommended to me as an excellent, hard sci-fi, read. Now, with a high powered cast and showrunner/director team, Netflix has finally released a full trailer for their upcoming adaptation.
Now it seems I might have to finally try to pick this series up and read it so that I can have at least book one finished before season one launches. My TBR and all the books that might end up getting pushed back because of this wish to say that they hate you Netflix and they don’t understand why you do this to them?!

This is me inviting you into my private journals as I explore fantasy and sci-fi realms across all media, but mostly books!
What I find interesting, if only in a huh, that’s a weird coincidence kind of way, is that this adaptation of 3 Body Problem is being done by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. The same Benioff and Weiss that did such a nice job with the Game of Thrones adaptation (regardless of how you feel about the final couple seasons). Not only that but 3 Body Problem also will see a few members of the Game of Thrones cast in prominent roles as well, including Samwell Tarly (John Bradley West) and Davos “The Onion Knight” Seaworth (Liam Cunningham).
So we’re getting a bit of a GoT reunion and I only hope that it doesn’t feel too much like we are seeing Sam and Davos playing dress up in this new sci-fi series.
The trailer does look good, it looks intense, and from what I understand about the books there is a mix of hard sci-fi and time travel(ish) themes. I have seen this book series talked about as being impossible to adapt to TV or film, so time will tell how it turns out. Based solely off the trailer though, I’m excited to check it out.
I only wish I didn’t have to hurry up and try to read yet another series before the show drops. Especially since as of now it is scheduled for a March 21st, 2024 release date, which leaves just over two months.
This might just be one where I watch the show and THEN read the books given that short timeline!
“To effectively contain a civilization’s development and disarm it across such a long span of time, there is only one way: kill its science.”

In other fantasy/sci-fi non book news, my friend Keith (@mindfully_reads on IG), shared a spotify playlist recently that is AMAZING for putting on in the background while reading.
It’s called the Tolkien Lo-Fi beats to study to (Lord of the Rings Lo-Fi) and it is, well, just listen for yourself below. I’ve been loving it as I finished Klara and the Sun and have started Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.
If you’re enjoying this letter I’d love it if you’d consider becoming a free or paid subscriber
There was one other film that came out in 2023 that I somehow had never heard a peep about, but it just popped up on my radar and I really want to check it out. It’s called The Creator and is being dubbed as a “Sci-Fi Thriller Epic More Creative Than Any Modern Star Wars”.
Seems like it can be streamed from Disney +/Hulu or rented via Amazon Prime, but I’m going to need to check this one out soon!
What’s been on your radar in the Fantasy and Sci-Fi realms this week? Let me know in the comments!
Until next time, happy reading!
Dave
OK. As one of the people recommending the books to you... this trailer looks AWESOME
